A prenuptial or antenuptial agreement (“prenup” for short) is a written contract created by two people before they are married. It is designed to ensure that the assets of those getting married will be divided as they so decide prior to getting married. Oftentimes individuals entering into prenuptial agreements seek to keep their own assets should the marriage fail, or provide that the assets (or a large portion of them) go to their children in the event of death.
